We provide all students with careers and university support to define their future.
The Futures Programme at Tettenhall College is designed to empower and guide our young adults as they consider and begin their next steps towards their own future self. Whilst traditionally a ‘career’ was a defined goal, in the world of today it is likely that one of our Sixth Former’s futures will be comprised of a series of ‘careers’ or roles.
Today, there are a plethora of occupations and roles which did not exist when their parents were at school or university. Equally, this evolution continues apace, and it is clear that a wide range of future opportunities will be present to our students, which have not yet been fully formed. The world is in a very dynamic state, with technology changing many of our assumed ‘normals’ and societies continuing to flux and develop.
Key features of Tettenhall College Futures Programme
The TC Future Programme is to give our students the skills, tools, resilience, confidence and ambition to shape their own future and be the leaders of tomorrow, with an educational foundation underpinned by solid learning, personal growth and self-belief.
TC Futures is a tailored initiative which is fully integrated into the curriculum and underpins a student’s journey throughout the Senior School and Sixth Form. We are committed to ensuring that all students receive outstanding personalised guidance at key decision points in their school career, from choosing GCSE subjects, and A Levels, through to finalising their Higher Education plans and refining their careers choices.
From the very first few weeks of life in Sixth Form, students will start on a programme of guidance and support, initially with their form tutor, but then with our Head of UCAS and Careers, the Head of Sixth Form, and then on to working directly and in a very targeted way with their nominated personal tutor.
We utilise UniFrog to help students identify courses and routes where they are likely to thrive, and this is then supported by wide ranging advice on the university application process, how and when to visit university open events, what to consider when looking to choose and apply for courses and much more. Whilst we are proud to offer excellent guidance from our own Sixth Form team, we also work with external specialists who will offer additional advice and bring inspiring new options for our students to consider.
We hold an annual Careers and University Fair, with a wide range of leading institutions coming to meet face to face with students, alongside representatives from local, regional and national employer organisations. Our Old Tettenhallian (OT) network contains a huge wealth of experience and we are working to develop ever deeper links to ensure current students can speak first hand to recent leavers who are a few years into their new pathways, and more experienced OTs who have forged their careers and can offer advice, experience, mentoring and other forms of support.
