Pupils from Tettenhall College Swim Academy competed for the first time in the National Finals of the 27th English Schools Swimming Association Primary Schools’ Team Championships on Saturday 17 June 2023. Hosted at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, they competed in a 50m pool built to FINA standards.
With over 96 schools from across the country competing, it was truly a special day for students to be a part of! A huge congratulations to Hari D, year 6 and Harry M, Ethan P and Harvey W all from year 5 for representing the school in the freestyle and medley relay heats.
The event got underway with the team captains from each school, for TC that was, Harry M & Harvey W walking onto the poolside, followed by over 400 children, lining the edge of the pool, singing and dancing. Following the National Anthem, the heats began.
TC finished a commendable 8th place in both the freestyle and medley relay heats, which resulted in finishing 23rd overall in the Small Schools category. This was a fantastic experience for our pupils and an even bigger achievement as pupils were swimming in the Year 5 – 6 aged category, with most competitors being in Year 6. We would also like to highlight the achievement of Daniel W in year 5, who was unable to attend the championships but swam in the qualifying event.
Pupils, parents, and staff all had an incredible time, an experience they will not forget.
