There’s no doubt that sport is an important part of our School life.
While we have high-achieving pupils who compete at top levels, our sports programme is inclusive and varied and encourages both team work and individual skills. Our pupils benefit from outstanding sporting facilities and alongside all the sports you would expect such as rugby, football, cricket, netball, hockey tennis and gymnastics there are also a few you might not - fencing, archery, golf, yoga, karate, step aerobics and squash to name but a few.
Our aim is to encourage pupils to find a sporting activity they love and to provide a basis for life-long fitness and participation. Sport is played in formal lessons at least three times a week, and our house system offers a wide range of sports in which all our pupils can compete. The role of team captain is an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills and to make a contribution to the life of the School and for the best players, the opportunity to represent the school in sport is one that is highly valued.
We feel it is important for all children to be able to swim and are fortunate to have our own on-site pool. Children from Reception upwards have swimming lessons and our Swimming Academy runs training sessions prior to the start of school three times a week for our best swimmers. From a tug of war to the TC mile, there are plenty of challenges for all abilities and a real sense of team spirit throughout and the popularity of sport at Tettenhall is reflected in the high number of pupils who choose to study Physical Education at GCSE and A Level.
