Spirit of Adventure, 7 to 11 years

Preparatory children continue their journey through Years 3 to 6 with the same spirit of adventure and discipline and a nurturing climate to encourage the best in each individual.

Small class sizes are a key strength for us, and they allow teaching staff to develop a knowledgeable and meaningful understanding of the members of their class. The progress of individuals is tracked carefully through internal and external assessments, careful observation and constant interaction.

Reports sent home at regular intervals indicate attitudes to learning and attainment against expected levels; and Tettenhall pupils regularly perform well above national levels of attainment. We commend diverse successes – whether academic, sporting, creative, excellent conduct or extraordinary efforts: pupils and parents alike can share the celebration of the unique contributions made by each child.

Behaviour is excellent, maintained by positive rather than negative comments. ISI Report 2014

A traditional yet flexible curriculum prepares pupils for life in Senior School and specialist staff in a variety of subjects contribute to the teaching of our oldest pupils. The vital link to a class teacher who delivers the majority of lessons is also maintained though, thus ensuring that the care and progress of each individual is foremost in their learning.

Home study is formalised at this stage, and set daily. Many pupils take advantage of our after-school prep facility, available until 6:00pm, to complete their homework. The wrap around care for Year 3-6 mirrors that for our youngest pupils with an early drop-off facility from 8:00am and an optional Breakfast Club from 7:30am.
