Big Bang Fair visit

Posted: 20th March 2017

The Big Bang Fair was attended by Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils at the Birmingham NEC. Exhibitors ranged from Rolls Royce, with 3D printing demonstrations to the nuclear industry, with working interactive mini models of gas turbines. The Armed Forces had displays of their latest technology. Remote control robots for bomb disposal could be tried out! Other government organisations included GCHQ. Some of the girls tried a ‘cluster computing’ exercise where big a problem is sub divided into smaller tasks, all solved simultaneously by different teams. There were also more traditional science demos, such as electromagnetic induction, motors and the physics behind the whip cracking sound!
